If you own and occupy your home as your principal place of residence, you may be eligible for an exemption of up to $7,000 off the dwelling's assessed value, resulting in a property tax savings of approximately $70 to $80 annually. If you need proof that a Homeowners’ Exemption has been filed for your property, you may bring your completed form to our office. We will stamp it as received and provide you with a stamped copy as documentation of your filing.

You are responsible for notifying the Assessor when you are no longer using the property as your principal place of residence. You are only eligible for one homeowner's exemption at a time within the state. To terminate a Homeowners’ Exemption in Santa Cruz County, please download, complete, and return the form to the Assessor’s Office.
